Description

Brink Nordic Dagmar Cross Ornament. 8 cm. Handmade in glass.

In 1863, a copy of the cross was given by King Frederik VII as a wedding gift to the Danish princess Alexandra’s wedding to the English heir to the throne, Edward VII.

Dagmar was a princess of Bohemia in Germany, and married King Valdemar Sejr of Denmark in 1205. Her real name was Margreta, but she had the nickname Dragimir. That is why Dagmar became her Danish name. It means daycare, the bright and friendly woman.

The folk songs tell that Dagmar was the queen of the people. She was beautiful, kind and gentle. The folk songs are told by word of mouth and first written down in the 16th century, so they are therefore not credible sources. But they have still made Dagmar one of Denmark’s most famous queens. Each piece of glass decoration is mouth-blown and beautifully hand-decorated with a thin layer of silver on the inside. This traditional method of production has remained largely unchanged for more than 100 years. The craftsmanship process makes each piece of glass decoration completely unique.
